Kingslayer [WIP] 2nd Year Game

Thought I’d start a thread on the 2nd year game we’re going to be making. All work related to this topic will be posted on here by the group.

Project: Kingslayer

Type: Cinematic sequence / 3rd person gameplay

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Concept:

[Fantasy medieval setting]

Cinematic showing an abandoned ruined study which sat in the heart of a large royal castle.

Books, potion bottles and furniture are sprawled out messily across the floor. The camera pans

behind the character to create a 3rd person game-play experience. The player now gains control of

the character.

An assassin walks into the study, taken in by the scale of the damage. He walks up to the desk which is still stained with blood.

[Flashback sequence]

10 Years Before:

An old king, well past his prime sits at his desk in his study. Planning his last war before his death. When a shrouded figure (the assassin from the first scene) walks into the room and brutally murders the king. His crown can be seen rolling down the stairs.

[Cuts back to the present time]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only the shadows on a nearby wall will be on screen when the king is getting murdered. Only one room will be created, however one will be a damaged version seen in the first half of the video, and the clean version of the room will be seen in the second half of the video. All the shots mentioned above are subject to change, we're mostly just looking to get everything looking pretty first. If worst comes to worst at least we'll have a pretty environment with characters in it.

Simply, we want to show the story of how the room became how it is.

Team:                                3D Hit

Nazir Joshua Khusal (Me) [Josh203]    - Environment/Hard surface/Texturing

Adelaide Coldham             [Avcat]         - Hard surface/ Animator

Georgia Jeffries                 [Zeroxia]      - Character Artist

These roles are not fixed as we will all be helping each other but they are a rough guide as to what each person will be doing. We have designed this project so that it will give us the skills as well as practice for our third year project. Nothing set in stone yet, mostly throwing ideas around as well as getting some concepts and making some assets.

Below are some of the stuff we’ve been working on:

Moodboards/ Concepts:

We're aiming for a room like this:

Character Moodboards:

Mostly been working on getting assets together (:

The emblem is the kings house. This logo will also be seen on the chestplate of his armour

Really not happy with the potion material, still figuring out a way to make it looks more liquid.

Getting a rig working on a super rough LP of the king model above to start practising some of the animations

sounds cool for a start and the concept of the room is great. two things i see though is that 1: why is the assassin there again? if he already killed the king whats he doing back there? grabbing a journal or somethihng? try and clarify that itd help with the story. also if its the same assassin then your gonna have to model the face and make him look a bit older unless you only see him from the back with a hood on.

2: if the kings in his private study he really wouldn't be wearing full battle armour, those suits used to weigh up to 25kg, i know the weight was spread out evenly and the knights were still mobile in them but you wouldnt really wander around a castle in it unless there was literally a siege going on outside the guys window.

id look more at regular clothing like this:

Uther_Pendragon_Anthony_Head.jpg

(especially long coats cos they look badass)

or more lightweight armour like a gambason, which is essentially really thick quilted coat that can block sword blows:

historical-gambeson-HG-02-12.jpg

or a coat of plates aka stark armour:

honestly if you want him to wear armour something like that^ would be perfect with where he has half plate half ligher armour on

Cheers for the kind words and the advice :) The main reason hes in full armour is because we want to show off our 3D art skills and full armour shows more of what we're capable of than just normal clothes, but if we cant pull it off we'll definitely do something more simple! the back story is that hes under constant threat from assassination due to him planning his war, which is why hes wearing his armour as a precaution :) The assasins face is shrouded so that should be a problem

Time to post what ive been working on (:

Slowly getting  a blockout of the room, im going for a slightly large and more grand style to the room as the concept art feels far too claustrophobic and we also want some room for the player to walk around and explore. The lighting is super rough and its all a bit of a mess at the moment but here we go anyway (: Ill be tweaking and replacing everything thats currently there, its all sort of placeholders at the moment. Ill re do the windows as well as im really not happy with them, but its getting there

Your porportions look quite off, the head is really small for the body, and the arms are really long. before you go into the detail, focus on those porportions and forms :)

Thanks for the feedback. :)  I'll go back and fix the proportions. I don't think it will cause too many problems with the details I've got in there already.

started to go through with some of the block out and place some of the assets in place. Finally managed to get stained glass working as well and made a candle material  (: a lot of the textures and stuff are really rough at the moment, just seeing how things are working in the scene:

Still sorting out the armour for the king, the style of shoulder pad is from old French armour changed up a bit to keep with the lion theme.

Decided to religate the desk to a background asset and instead have a larger more open war planning desk. Its very rough at the moment, ill be re doing the model soon, and all the textures are just random starter content textures that i through on. More of a block out at this stage

im going for something like this:

Heres what its looking like at the moment:

Thanks Owen, I've changed the shoulders up a bit. I decided to go with shoulders similar to Varian in the Legion trailer although not so huge. :)
