In the year 2026, the British government of the Patriotic Party votes to privatise a large part of the British Army. As a result, the Private Military Companies become more powerful than ever.

 

In 2030, the Workers Party is elected to power and starts implementing a radical plan of forceful nationalisations. The Private Military Companies, supported by the Patriotic Party, refuse to surrender their power and civil war breaks out.

 

Both sides claim to be the legitimate government of the United Kingdom. The British people are divided and the King himself remains neutral. Millions attempt to flee the conflict as refugees, seeking asylum in the European Union.

 

One year later, with much of the country in ruins, a temporary ceasefire is agreed upon between the two sides, but the war is not over. Amid this tenuous pact, a former soldier of the British Army makes his living as a lone mercenary, taking on contracts from whichever side he chooses...

Divided Kingdom is a 3rd-person Shooter-RPG set in a near-future dystopian Britain. The player can either choose to take a side in the civil war or remain neutral.

 

Our Level 5 Games Art Project will be a flythrough of an environment from the game, ending with a view of the game's protagonist.

Character Artist: Keön Viljoen

 

 

The environment we're creating is an imaginary International Railway Station, borrowing elements from St Pancras and King's Cross stations, combined with a dose of sci-fi. A mass evacuation took place in this station after the outbreak of the war, with civilians desperately trying to board a train towards France. Formerly occupied by a Private Military Company, the station has been deserted for about a year.

 

Our current idea is to make two versions of the station: a "clean" one, as it was before the war, and a "destroyed" one, as it is in the game, and switch between them during the flythrough.

The character shown in our trailer will be the protagonist of the game, a highly skilled mercenary whose path has led him to explore the abandoned train station.

So I'm working out the mag-lev train and how it's going to look at the moment :) here's the basic idea/shape of it right now before adding all the grills/windows/lights etc

So here's our alpha submission!

 

Already a few things on our list to improve, but we're still not sure if we're going to go for a single fly through shot or do something more conventional with different shots/cuts etc. 

 

so far:

 

1.) Replace the placeholder newspaper (acts as our title)

2.) Let's fly through the window rather than the train mesh (nice one Ben)

3.) Give the character a loooooot more screen time
