NEW YEAR, NEW ME... because I can't access my old 3Dhit account X_X

This semester, I've chosen the world building elective and am trying to specialise in character art! I'm going to make "The Lady of Shalott" (Elaine of Astolat) from Arthurian legend and have made myself a mood board on Pinterest: http://www.pinterest...eson/character/

None of these images are mine

I wanted to put some nice, filmy drapery on her: a woman trapped in a tower doesn't need to be warm or modest!

I think the waistband should be a decorative belt - it would be more in keeping with her regal status. Good start though. Not sure if it's any help to you, but Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a reasonably long poem about the Lady of Shalott

Might give you more inspiration (it's a sad tale though)

I'm also working on ideas for my game design bible. I've made a Pinterest board for that too (I'm not addicted, I promise!): https://www.pinteres...eson/andromeda/

And I've also been working on ideas for my main character. Basically, she's a sexy princess who returns to her kingdom to find it overrun by enemies from under ground and so she proceeds to KICK ASS. Her subjects are pretty useless because they've been spending all their time having a good time, rather than kicking ass so it's up to you to save the day! Anyway, her name's Andromeda (for now :p ).

I coloured some faces with the copic ciao markers from the art shop.

Thank you for the advice! I love the poem (though it sometimes makes me cry!) and I'll do some more drawings with a much more fabulous belt!

Ah I really like the pinky colour scheme for her hair (personal opinion) and also the yellow highlights

Thanks for the feedback! I'm looking forward to doing some more pastelly designs! Just need to replace my pastel pink marker X_X :D

So, we had to present our Game design ideas on Thursday, alongside 2 or 3 pieces of concept art. This is what I've got at the moment. Apologies for weird borders; I had to uninstall everything from my computer (two steps forward, three steps back) so I'm currently reinstalling Photoshop! Also, apologies for the marks on everything I upload. They're on the scanner in 1B03. Everything's been done traditionally with copic markers but I'm going to do some stuff in photoshop that will hopefully turn out a bit less wishy-washy!

So, I just wanted to play with colours to create a magical feel. Unfortunately, my pale pink pen ran out while I was drawing this so it's a bit peachier than I intended but I enjoyed it and I want to try something in Photoshop but with a lot more contrast between light and dark: a bit less pastelly.

This is the first design I drew for my protagonist. I just started drawing without reference so there are a lot of things I'm not happy about: the pose is awkward, her hair is too illustration-y, there's too much going on in the drawing (colours, random bits of fabric and metal) and the cape ruins the silhouette, I think. I took some elements from this design and drew one which I like more.

My "high concept" description for the game was "Dishonored and Howl's Moving Castle go for a night out at the Moulin Rouge" and I think that this design captured the burlesque aspect of my game better, as opposed to the more generic fantasy look of the other design. I wanted my game to have a slightly modern feel to it, too. I'll probably try a few new things once I've progressed a bit further with my design ideas for the rest of the game.

While waiting for my tutorial, I drew something to give an idea of the city where my game is set. Basically, it's a prosperous city full of parties and magical things. The land surrounding it is barren and used as a graveyard but, one day, strange outsiders come out of the ground via tunnels and take over the city!

I've got some ideas of mechanics but I'll probably go into more detail once I've put everything together a bit more and have art/diagrams to support my ideas!

Just an update on what I'm doing for the Film/TV/Book brief. This is the character I'm going to be making for that, though the design might change slightly as I mess around with materials and sculpting tools. Hopefully she looks like a real lady now; I might add some more gold embroidery and jewellery.

I added some stuff onto the model that Neil gave us and now I'm going to heavily sculpt it in ZBrush. I'm not sure at what stage to add the garland and necklace. I wanted to go for a stylized, painting-y look for this model so I'm going to try and sculpt the hair.

I'm going to make a huge amount of changes in ZBrush, I just needed some extra geometry to sculpt onto!

Also, here's what I did in the lecture last week for the ecorche study

We didn't do half muscle and half skin in the lecture so I'm not really sure where this is going.

I have no idea about character art :p But dont worry about it not being half muscle, half skin yet, you'll do that at the end, you just mask half the model, smooth it out and that will create the ecorche effect you're after

Thanks! I'll just go with the flow and not stress about it too much! I want to get in to character art so I want to nail this!

I mostly used https://www.zygotebody.com/but Neil gave us a folder of references to use on Rex while we followed him along in class. Also, he gave us the base model for us to sculpt on!

Yeah those statues are excellent. See if you can borrow one to take home or something, or even buy one, 3dTotal do one for £75 https://shop.3dtotal...ale-figure.html

Looking at refs is great, but if you can run your fingers over it, roll your thumb over it, etc. You get a much better idea of the forms.

As a useful exercise, you could do a paintover of that statue, highligting specific planar forms. There are a couple that are a little off in your sculpt (for example: the external obliques, moving onto the serratus anterior). You're very close, but not quite there.

Also, pay closer attention to the triceps, look for more reference on those, they're complex and the way they connect to the bottom of the humerous usually throws people, myself included.

Finally, the front of the deltoid shouldn't have that massive concave shape where the bicep inserts. It should be more of a gentle roll.
