Hey everyone my name is Josh and I'm a first year studying on the Games Art and Design course. As of so far I've started doing bits and bobs of each brief rather than diving head first into just one. Here is my progress of some of my work so far. Any suggestions and critiques would be great.

tables looking good, did you texture in substance? What props are you thinking of adding to it?

Also have you got any research pages to show for your street scene?

I did yeah, and I was thinking of a nice glazed bowl and and lamp or something of the sort. Just a few things to show off some lighting and different materials.

I've done bits and bobs, but I'm finding it hard to make the sketchbook. How did you get your one looking so good?

Thank you :) It's got a long while to go yet, going to try and make it look really grungy

I made my sketchbook in Photoshop, I made a lined paper background and used that for all my pages. Then I used a texture from cgtextures and modified it with drop shadows and erased parts to give the torn effects.

Pretty much all my pages are just duplicates with different writing and images. Its pretty quick to do if you set up a group with a basic template and just reuse it.

Liking the street scene, just be careful about having both of the vanishing points within the frame is this sort of gives the picture a sort of Fish-Eye lense sort of distortion unless that's what you're going for lol. The table is fantastic too :) Defo get some stuff on top of it to give it character like a lamp or something if you've got the time.

Thanks man, I took that in mind and cropped it a little bit, it looks a lot stronger now :) And yeah, I'm not too sure what to put on the table yet but I've got lads of time left :)

Great start. It's me or it's a bit distorted?

Hey everyone! Thanks for the great replies! I've cropped my street scene to reduce the fish-eye effect that having both vanishing points caused. I've also done some more shadow and light work on it.

I think that the shadow of the white wall is wrong

If you shift the left vanishing point a lot further to the left, your image will look less squeezed.

Also watch the lighting as it looks like there are two suns creating shadows in both directions. If you kept the sun to the left of the image for example you could create a nice composition and mood with a darker more mysterious alley way contrasted by a busier lighter main road. Just an idea :)
