Thought I'd start my 3rd year thread now with a blockout of a ship I'm doing. This ship will be rigged, animated and comped into a scene aswell as changed into a game res asset so I've began with a blockout (still in concepting stage) it'll also have a rigged interior. The ship is an original idea but I'm using references for different parts. I intend to do paintovers to further develop the design, All crit welcome :)

Thanks Neil :) and yep I'll definitely give them a shot :) I've got in contact with Cloud imperium before and they were happy to look over my work so I'm working on getting this to a stage where I feel comfortable sending it.

I attempted a paint over just to see how I'd do. The results okay but to be honest I'm definitely faster at modelling than I am drawing, some bits that took 10 minutes to paint so that it fit the model lighting wise could have been modelled in seconds then rendered in the first place, also if I did like the design I had created, I would have to then model it when I could have done that in the first place without the drawing. I do however like the lights and will probably implement that in the final design. Also designing the interior of the ship, the centre console is done and I'm adding little switches nd stuff.

This is a little less pixelated. 3dhit compressed the concept to hell lol

Made the pilot seats and started a base for the floor interior of the ship. Bonus chair made of light was messing with keyshot, gonna practice rendering in it soon see what results I can get. None of the colours are representative of final, I just like colouring things.

Been a bit quiet. Been busy trying to get this substance competition done. I'm doing a mid way art dump. Competition finishes on 17th July.

It's gone through a lot of iterations. The dark images are light tests, not representative of final product. I think I have the composition and lighting almost complete.

Track and Train are UV'd just the bridge left then on to texturing

All pictures are in subdivision 0 so it'll look better in final especially reflections and curves as you'll be able to see in the train renders (they were subdiv1 but it wasn't enough for the surface, 2 will fix it). And ignore any intersecting cubes you see lol, that was a bridge Idea I tested out at the time but I'm not doing it anymore.

just posting a bit of progress. 2000 crashes later.

Just posting a little progress.

Pic 1 was the original composition
      2. Is a closeup

      3. is a night one for experimental purposes, it won't be uploaded at all

      4. is probably what the final composition will be after some crit I recieved. I think the 1st one was supposedly too busy so the last composition is more simple, but also shows the track which I did put some time into lol.

Textures/shaders are still very basic. Gonna continue tommorow and flesh it up, fix all the problems since the last image was mashed together for comp purposes.

at the moment the composition all feels a bit muddled. I ahve no idea what Im supposed to be looking at and struggling to even figure out what everything is. Is this final lighting? If so it just doesn't feel like it works for this image at all. Even the night one doesn't draw my eye to anything and feels a bit unapealing. Im sure textures will help a bit but I would rwork the lighting majorly. Don't be afraid of the dark!

You want to draw peoples eyes to the craft with the open door. I would start by switching of all lights and just putting a nice light, a soft orange or yellow maybe in there and that will give you a focal point that will look nice. Then gradually re introduce the glowing strip lights that are around but with a lot less intensity and such. Look at some ref.

Thanks a lot for the crit. Yeah the composition is not focused and I forget this is a vehicle competition. They care less about the background and just note there needs to be one. I'm gone with the orange light and turned off a tonne of lights. Realized its almost like the rolls royce aesthetic
