love the red but it would be really cool to see a mix of the red with the armour/chest plate of the green!

All these designs are great!

Perhaps try adding the green's left arm armour (her left!) onto the red design, it could look interesting.

I especially like the red design most however. Can't wait to see the rest of your brief!

Dammit Leti, you better get this stuff finished.

Personally, I like the blue one the least. I like the overall design of the green armour best, but the hairstyle of the red chick. The purple one is nice too, but somehow feels more mermaid to me than serpent lady. But you should know what fits best.

I'm gonna experiment by combing the red and the green together :p Cheers for the comment!

I personally prefer the green design, since I kind of want to go for a badass warrior style. I will mix and match a few things from the red design though since the red is my second favourite :)

I do agree the purple one looks more like an underwater mermaid princess, I guess I was running out of ideas. I personally like the green one the best, but you're right with the hairstyle on the red. I'll mix and match it and see how it goes :p

Lineart was fun...moving onto the colours now. hope the colours won't ruin the lineart.... #mostcertainlyalineartperson

Your  skin tones, and gloss don't really feel like a snake, and the arm skin tone doesnt really match the face skin tone :) However, all your paints look beautiful :o especially like the crispyness of the 2nd render :p

yeah I think I treated her more like a human rather than a snake. My mistake, since it's supposed to be a 'creature' reinvention >.<

My sense of tonal value isn't great so my thoughts process was like 'There's more light shining on her face and her arm is kind of behind her back?' and she has rather pale skin so that's why her face is so white compared to her arm. But I do understand that the arm should be more desaturated. If I'm(not lazy) free enough to rework on it during Summer I'll definitely go back to it since I was pretty committed to this serpent lady :p Thanks for the crit!

Your serpent woman is a really cool design. The line work and colours are great. A crit for a future piece would be to focus on keeping the lighting set up consistent in your piece. I've never done AO in the way you have here but unfortunately its still really confusing as to what your light sources are. Jesus Conde I found has some great videos on lighting and how to paint different materials.

Yeah, I'm really bad with lighting so I need to practice more. As for AO painting, it is described by CGCookie as 'a soft, subtle shadowing that appears between close objects and tight space where light can't easily reach'. So there isn't really a 'direct' light source when it comes to AO painting. However this is only my second try on AO painting so it's probably a bit off anyways xD

An example of AO found on DeviantArt by Visoutre below:

But thanks for the lighting tutorial!! It's in my playlist now :)

these blew me away!

Thank you!

Your AO layer would benefit from some parts being much darker. AO is not always soft, the intensity of the effect depends on how hard it is for light to reach a surface. For example on that Visoutre image you can see AO creates a very dark area inside her sleeve where light cannot reach.

The tighter the space the darker it appears, so by adding little dark areas you create a sense of contact between two things.
